Year 4 2025 - 2026

We always have lots of exciting learning opportunities in Year Four. Our topics include 'The Ancient Greeks', 'The Romans' and 'Humans including Animals'.
Enjoy taking a look at all of the learning and adventures we experience in Year Four!
Reading Books- please try to encourage your child to read daily. Little and often is more beneficial along with talking to your child about the text and using some of the questions from the Information Evening PowerPoint. Please update us with what your child is reading via Dojo Portfolio. If you are looking for Year Four recommendations for books please visit the following websites:

Year 4 Multiplication Check
From June 2020, a new Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) became statutory for our Year 4 children. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether Year 4 pupils can fluently recall their multiplication tables. The MTC focuses on the fluent recall of multiplication facts, as set out in the National Curriculum (2014) statutory programme of study for mathematics at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The national curriculum states:
“By the end of Year 4, pupils should have memorised their multiplication tables up to and including the 12 multiplication table and show precision and fluency in their work.”
The MTC is delivered as an online, on-screen digital assessment and takes each pupil less than five minutes to complete.
How can I help my child?
Times tables are learnt best when practised regularly and in short bursts. Here at Oughtrington Primary School, we use Times Tables Rock Stars both online and on paper, number sense and mastering number to support children’s learning. Your child’s login details are the same each year. If you are unsure, please ask your child’s class teacher.
There are many other ways you can help your child at home too.
